College softball: EOU takes three of four

LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon softball returned to action Sunday morning for the second half of a four-game series with Whitworth University. The Mountaineers took the first game 12-4 in six innings and dropped the second by a score of 7-1.
In the opener, Gates Leatherwood put EOU up 3-1 in the second inning with a three-run home run. The Pirates tied the game at 3-all in the third inning, but the Mountaineers broke thins open with six runs in the fourth inning.
Karly Hanosky delivered a clutch single down the right-field line, bringing in two runs and igniting a flurry of offense. Haley Tyree had two hits and drove in two.
Witworth won the second game with a five-run fourth inning. Hanosky drove in the Mounties’ lone run with a double in the seventh inning.
On Saturday, the Mountaineers swept the Pirates 6-1 and 3-1 to take three of four games on the weekend.
In the opener, Tyree drove in two with a single in the second inning and Katelynn Evans had a base knock to plate another run. Kaylie Hoskins got the win in the circle allowing just three hits one run and struck out 14.
In the second game, Kelly Monaghan, Hanosky and Tyree all had RBI singles for EOU to get the win. Kylie Parsons went seven innings and struck out seven.
EOU (7-2) is back at home next weekend to host Oregon Tech.
