High school boys basketball: Bobcats bounce back from Crane loss, crush Eagles

BAKER CITY — Less than one day from a loss to top-seeded Crane in the quarterfinals of the 1A state basketball tournament, No. 8 Union stormed back in an early morning 82-51 rout of 12th-seeded Crosshill Christian in the consolation bracket of the playoffs.

The win advances the Bobcats to the fourth-place game on March 2 against seventh-seed Lost River.

Union used double-figure scoring by every starter to place the game under the Mercy Rule in the final quarter of the matchup.

A quick start to the game set the tone as Union put up 23 points in the first quarter, while holding the Eagles to only eight points. The Bobcats outscored Crosshill Christian in each quarter of the game.

The second quarter saw Crosshill Christian make a small run early to close the gap before Union stormed back to lead at halftime, 42-24.

The third quarter proved to be the closest as the Bobcats outscored the Eagles 17-16. With the bench on the floor the majority of the final eight minutes, Union cruised to the victory.

Chase Koshinsky led Union’s win with 18 points. Tee Ledbetter ended the game with a double/double, putting in 17 points and 14 rebounds. KJ Klebaum came on in the second half, ending the game with 16 points and Evan Cloutier put in 15 points. Trae Frank ended his morning with 13 points.

For the game, Union shot 28-for-58 from the field for 48% and was perfect on the day from the free-throw line, going 12-for-12. The Bobcats scored 22 points of 14 Crosshill Christian turnovers.
