High school girls basketball: Badger Girls Fall In Semis

BAKER – A horrendous fourth quarter ended the hopes of the Powder Valley girls’ basketball team to reach the finals of the 1A state tournament on Friday, March 1.
Scoring only two points in the final eight minutes, the Badgers saw North Douglas take a 60-44 semifinal victory.
Behind by only two points after the first quarter, Powder Valley exploded in the second quarter to enter the locker room with a 32-26 lead after outscoring North Douglas in the second quarter 18 to 10.
The Warriors did make a dent in the Badger lead in the third by only four points. Then came the fourth, a period that saw North Douglas outscore Powder Valley 20 to 2. A short jumper by Jodi Bingham with 44 seconds showing on the clock was the lone points of the quarter for the Badgers.
Jodi Bingham, the Moda Player of the Game for Powder Valley, led the Badgers with 15 points and four rebounds. Kellee Dixon added eight points and added 18 rebounds, 11 of those on the offensive side of the ball. Ayla Bingham put in seven points while adding four rebounds.
North Douglas controlled the paint, outscoring Powder Valley inside 32 to 12. The Warriors also grabbed 17 points off Badger turnovers.
Powder Valley now plays for third place on Saturday, March 2 versus St. Paul. St. Paul was crushed by Crane, 33-66 in the other semifinal game of the day. Game time for the Badgers vying for that third-place state showing is 2:15 p.m. in the Baker gym.
