College softball: EOU sweeps weekend series

STAYTON —The No. 14 Eastern Oregon softball team rolled to a dominating 11-1 victory over Corban in six innings in the first game of a Friday doubleheader in Stayton.
The Mountaineers scored 11 runs on 10 hits and saw pitcher Kaylie Hoskins pick up her fourth win, throwing a no-hitter while striking out 11 and walking two. The lone run was scored on a fielder’s choice after the runner reached by being hit by a pitch and moved to third on an error.
Katelynn Evans had three hits and drove in three runs and Gates Leatherwood hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to cap EOU’s offense.
EOU continued its dominating ways with a 16-0 win the in the second game. Kylie Parsons and Macao Jackson combined to allow just one hit and struck out two.
Evans smacked another home run and both Addison Ribordy and Madelyn Durham both had three runs driven in each.
The Mountaineers completed the weekend sweep on Sunday. EOU won the opener 8-0 with Haskins allowing one hit and striking out nine in five innings. Evans had two hits and drove in three.
The Mountaineers won the finale 5-1 scoring five runs on six hits with Evans collecting the only multi-hit game in the contest.
EOU improved to 13-3 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.
