Oregon Climate Action Commission to meet virtually on March 19

SALEM — The Oregon Climate Action Commission will meet on Tuesday, March 19, to hear updates on Oregon’s 2024 legislative session and the state’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant proposal.

The virtual public meeting will be held from 1-4 p.m.

During the online meeting, the Oregon Department of Energy also will provide an informational update on the energy facility siting process. The commission will also hear an update on the status of offshore wind in Oregon.

For this informational item, the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development will provide an overview of the Oregon Coastal Management Program and describe the federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s leasing process for offshore wind development off the Oregon Coast. The Oregon Department of Energy will describe offshore wind planning processes within the regional power sector.

The agenda and meeting information, including how to listen in, is available on the commission’s website. Public comments may be submitted through the commission’s contact form online or by email. Members of the public will also have an opportunity to sign up during the meeting to make oral comments.

The Oregon Climate Action Commission is a 35-member advisory group, originally created as the Oregon Global Warming Commission by the 2007 Legislature through House Bill 3543. In 2023, the Oregon Legislature modernized and renamed the commission in HB 3409. Members are appointed and directed to develop long-term policy recommendations to prepare for, adapt to and combat climate change.
