LA GRANDE — It was a tough weekend for the Eastern Oregon baseball team as it dropped four games to Bushnell in the opener of conference action.

Saturday, the Mountaineers lost the opener 15-13 in an offensive slugfest before falling 17-11 in the second game.

EOU held a 5-0 in the second inning of the first game as Chase Nett smacked a three-run home run in the second inning. The Mounties would regain the lead 7-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Parker Cumberland doubled in Youhyeon Choi and Joey Freitas plated Cumberland.

With his team down 11-9 in the seventh inning, Cumberland hit a grand slam to put the Mounties up 13-11, but Bushnell tied the game in the eighth and won it in the ninth with a two-run homer.

Bushnell scored five runs in the first inning of the second game and never trailed. Cumberland had another big game with two hits — including a three-run homer — and five RBIs while Matthew Carson and a pair of knocks and drove in three for EOU.

The Beacons completed the sweep on Sunday, 6-1 and 5-2. Mario Landeros’s double to score Nett was the lone offense for the Mountaineers in the first game. Landeros also provided the only offense in the finale with a two-run shot in the sixth inning.

The Mounties will travel to Lewiston, Idaho next weekend to face No. 7 Lewis-Clark State. EOU is 9-17 on the season and 0-4 in conference play.
