Grace at the Place plans Holy Week events

ISLAND CITY — Grace at the Place Community Church announces a series of activities and services during Holy Week, the week that leads up to Easter. All are welcome to attend any of these events. The Place is at 62848 Philynda Loop in Island City.

On Palm Sunday, March 24, Sunday school is at 9 a.m., worship is at 10 a.m., and a luncheon begins at 11:15 a.m. On Maundy Thursday, March 28, a Bible study is offered at 10 a.m., followed by a buffet lunch at 11:30 a.m. and a screening of the film “The Passion” at 12:15 p.m. A Good Friday worship service is at 7 p.m. on March 29, and on Easter Sunday, March 31, a breakfast is served at 8:30 a.m. and Easter worship begins at 10 a.m.

Spring Conference held March 23

LA GRANDE — The La Grande First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will worship at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 24. Bible study for adults is held at 9 a.m. A General Board meeting begins at 11:45 a.m.

On Mondays, the Mighty Men group is at 11 a.m., and the Bible Sleuths group meets at 4 p.m. On Thursdays, the Homemakers Bible Study begins at 1:30 p.m., and the choir practices at 3:30 p.m.

Cove Christian Camp Spring Conference is on Saturday, March 23. The conference begins at 10 a.m. at the Imbler Christian Church.

Procession of palm branches will open worship service

LA GRANDE — Faith Lutheran Church in La Grande offers a Wednesday evening Lenten service at 6:30 p.m. This week’s sermon will focus on vindication, that is being cleared of suspicion, accusation or doubt. A soup supper is served at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday, March 24, is Palm Sunday. Some members of Faith Lutheran will proces into the sanctuary with palm branches and set them at the foot of the cross. The sermon will deal with the drama of Passion Week focusing on Pontius Pilate with his position of temporary authority.

Weekly lesson on 2 Nephi continues

NORTHEAST OREGON — During the first hour of worship services at area congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sunday, March 24, the sacrament will be blessed and presented to all those who wish to partake, after which members selected from the congregation will speak on assigned topics. The second hour of services will be Priesthood, Relief Society and youth group meetings.

The “Come, Follow Me” lesson for the week of March 18 is based on the conclusion of 2 Nephi (chapters 31-33) in the Book of Mormon. This lesson focuses on the importance of following the doctrine of Jesus Christ.

Special programs are planned for Easter Sunday, March 31, that will celebrate the life and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jehovah’s Witnesses to gather worldwide March 24

LA GRANDE — Jehovah’s Witnesses extend an invitation to join with millions around the world on Sunday, March 24, to commemorate the death of Jesus Christ. Locally, the gatherings will be at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall in La Grande. The annual observance of the Lord’s Evening Meal will feature a talk highlighting the significance of Jesus’ death. The one-hour event will begin and conclude with prayer.
