College baseball: EOU struggles in weekend series

LEWISTON, Idaho — The Eastern Oregon baseball team dropped four games over the weekend to No. 7 Lewis-Clark State.

Friday, the Warriors used a four-run fifth inning to win the first game 6-3 and completed the sweep, 4-3, in the second game.

Parker Cumberland had three hits and scored a run for EOU and Tommy Whiles added a pair of hits and drove in a run. Warriors pitcher Drake George struck out 10 over six innings for the win.

Lewis-Clark State scored three runs in the first inning of the second game before EOU tied the game in the fifth. The Warriors scored a run in the seventh for the win. Chase Nett and Youhyeon Choi both had a pair of hits for EOU.

Saturday, the Mountaineers dropped games by scores of 13-9 and 6-3.

EOU scored four runs in the third inning of the opener as Mario Landeros and Trevor Baker drove in runs to bring EOU to within 6-4. Landeros had three hits and drove in three.

The Mountaineers saw Nett collect two hits and drive in two in the second game.

EOU, which fell to 9-21 on the season and 0-8 in conference play, is back home on Saturday to face University of British Columbia.
