College softball: Mountaineers sweep three games

PORTLAND — The 15th-ranked Eastern Oregon softball team swept three games from Warner Pacific over the weekend to improve to 10-2 in conference play and 18-5 overall.

EOU won the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader before rain canceled the second game. Pitcher Kaylie Hoskins struck out 13 in a five inning one-hitter for the Mountaineers to win 11-0.

Hannah Tyree and Madelyn Durham both smacked home runs in the first inning to get EOU out to a 4-0 lead. Tyree added a two-run double and finished with three RBIs.

On Sunday, EOU picked up wins by scores of 10-1 and 8-1.

Kelly Monaghan had three hits, including a two-run home run, and dove in three. Addison Ribordy drove in two and scored twice. Kaylie Parsons allowed two hits and struck out 10.

Hoskins got the win in the second game allowing two hits, one run and struck out 13 in five innings.

Tyree went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run.

The Mountaineers will be back in action Thursday as they return home to Peggy Anderson Field to take on the Argos of the University of Providence. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
