College softball: Hoskins throws perfect game

LA GRANDE — The No. 15 Eastern Oregon softball team competed its four-game sweep of Providence as Kaylie Hoskins threw a perfect game in the opener Friday. EOU won the game 11-0 in five innings as Hoskins improved to 10-6 on the season while striking out 12.

The Mountaineers won the second game 9-1 in six innings after taking two games from the Argos on Thursday.

EOU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the first game on a Hannah Tyree home run. EOU put the game away with eight runs in the second. Madelyn Durham provided the biggest blast with a grand slam.

Haskins’ perfect effort was the sixth time she threw a complete game no-hitter.

Kylie Parsons won the second game for EOU by striking out seven in six innings while allowing one run. Durham drove in five with a pair of triples.

Eastern Oregon improved to 22-5 overall and 13-2 in conference play. The Mountaineers are back in action Friday when they take on The College of Idaho in La Grande at 2 p.m.
