LA GRANDE — The Eastern Oregon baseball team went 1-3 in a pair of doubleheaders with Corban this weekend.

On Friday the Mountaineers dropped the opener 16-2 before rebounding to win the second 3-2. Corban struck early and often in the first game getting six-run innings in both the fourth and fifth innings as it outhit EOU 15-5. Joey Freitas had a hit and drove in two for the home team.

Game two was deadlocked until the fourth inning when Eastern Oregon broke the silence with Trevor Baker’s clutch double to left-center, bringing in Freitas and putting the Mountaineers up 1-0. The Mounties extended their lead in the fifth inning when Youhyeon Choi’s triple to left field drove in Tommy Whiles. Choi then capitalized on a passed ball, adding another run to EOU’s tally, putting them ahead 3-0.

Saturday saw the Mountaineers drop a pair of one-run games, 7-6 in 11 innings and 9-8.

EOU jumped out to a 5-2 lead after four innings in the first game before Corban took a 6-5 lead heading into the ninth. The Mountaineers would force extra innings scoring in the ninth. Trevor Baker’s clutch single to right-center allowed the Mountaineers to level the score.

The Warriors scored the winning run on a dribbler down the first base line that stayed fair.

Parker Cumberland had two hits and three RBIs while Baker had three hits and drove in one.

The finale was a back-and-forth game with Baker collecting two hits and scoring three times and Whiles had two hits and plated two runs.

The Mountaineers, 12-27 overall and 3-13 in conference play, return to Optimist Field Saturday, set to take on the Oregon Tech at 11:00 a.m.
