Grow your imagination, and some seeds, at the library in April

LA GRANDE — Although there is snow on the mountains surrounding the Grande Ronde Valley, spring has sprung and is evident in many of the April programs at Cook Memorial Library in La Grande.
The OSU Extension Office Master Gardener program is offering a trio of free “Gardening for Beginners” classes at the library. April 13 is Seed Starting, April 20 is Container Gardening, and April 27 is Cut Flower Growing. Space is limited. Registration is required for each Saturday class and may be done on the library’s website.
Gardeners from budding to expert can take advantage of the Seed Library available at the main desk through the end of April. Free seeds are available to all community members.
On Earth Day, Monday, April 22, the EOU Chemistry Club is doing a special program with hands-on science activities beginning at 4 p.m. Grade school age kids and their caregivers are invited to “Get a Charge out of Chemistry.”
A new program for children, CHD Art Group, launches in April. For ages 6-11, this free group teaches kids ways to express their emotions through art. The next session will be on Friday, April 26, from 3-4 p.m. — from May through July the group will meet on Fridays for one hour beginning at 3 p.m.
Also for kids, the library’s Lego Club meets the first Tuesday of every month from 3-5 p.m. Legos are provided and all are welcome to come join the building.
Storytime continues this spring on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. in the Story Circle. Each storytelling gathering also includes a craft.
The EOU Writing Center in the library is open Mondays in April from 2-4 p.m. with EOU students providing writing assistance for teens and adults.
The Dungeons & Dragons and gaming group this month is on Thursdays, April 11 and April 25, from 3:30-5:30 pm. This free activity is open to all ages and skill levels. For information, contact Ryan at 541-962-1339.
For adults, Storytellers is on Saturday, April 13, at 2 p.m. This monthly gathering offers a casual setting where participants respond to prompts and share spontaneous tellings of personal experiences, practice compassionate listening and create community.
Spells and Stars Book Club for adults meets Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. The book up for discussion this month is “Every Heart a Doorway” by Seanan McGuire. New members are welcome.
