COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — The La Grande softball team pushed the season record to 9-0 after a 17-0 win over College Place, Washington on Tuesday, April 9.

The nonleague win was the final game before the Tigers return to 4A Greater Oregon League action on April. 12.

The bats were moving for La Grande as the squad combined for 16 hits and 13 RBIs in the win.

Junior Austyn Meuser was in the circle in the mercy rule shortened five inning game.

Meuser faced 17 College Place batters, striking out seven and only allowing two hits.

La Grande (9-0 overall, 2-0 4A Greater Oregon League) now returns to league play, going on the road on April 12 to Ontario (1-6 overall, 0-2 4A Greater Oregon League) for a two-game day. Ontario hosts La Grande after falling in the team’s last five games, including two GOL losses to Pendleton on April 9.

Both the Buckaroos and La Grande stand league perfect, while Ontario and Baker/Powder Valley continue to search for a league victory.

Elgin/Imbler 10, Union/Cove 9

ELGIN — A game that saw both teams lead at various points throughout the game ended with the Elgin/Imbler softball team picking up its first 2A/1A Special District 7, 10-9, over Union/Cove on Tuesday, April 9, in Elgin.

“It was a tough day for us,” Union/Cove head coach Madison Barr said.

A positive for the LadyCats was the bat of junior Amanda Lawyer, ending the day 3-for-4.

Elgin/Imbler jumped out early in the game before Union/Cove fought back to take the lead in the middle innings. The LadyCats’ defense then allowed the Huskies back into the game in the final inning before Elgin/Imbler was able to pull out the win and claim the team’s first district victory.

Union/Cove (5-6 overall, 2-2 2A/1A Special District 7) looks to break a two-game skid, both league losses, on April 12 with a trip to Heppner (6-4 overall, 2-0 2A/1A Special District 7) for two district games.

Elgin/Imbler (3-7 overall, 1-3 2A/1A Special District 7) attempts to continue the team’s momentum in district play with a trip to Pilot Rock (6-5 overall, 1-3 2A/1A Special District 7) on April 13 for two games against the Rockets.

The current district standings show Weston-McEwen/Griswold at the top with a 4-0 record followed by Grant Union/Prairie City and Heppner/Ione/Condon, both with 2-0 records.
