HEPPNER — On the road and facing Heppner/Ione/Condon was not the time for the Union/Cove softball squad to commit errors.
The LadyCats posted the team’s third and fourth straight loss on Friday, April 12, falling to the Mustangs in 2A/1A Special District 7 action.
“It is tough to win games when you are giving up the amount of runs we are currently,” LadyCats head coach Madison Barr said. “Hopefully, we can clean up some things during our upcoming nonleague games.”
Game one proved to be the closer contest with Heppner/Ione/Condon able to come away with a 12-9 victory. The second game of the day was all Mustangs as the LadyCats fell in a rule shortened three inning game, 19-4.
“We did have some high points,” Barr said. “Cabella Gregory, Amanda Lawyer and freshman Sofia Garcia led the offense for the team today.”
Union/Cove (5-8 overall) now has two nonleague games to work on some issues beginning with a home game against the Baker/Powder Valley junior varsity on Tuesday, April 16. The LadyCats welcome the junior Bulldogs for a 4 p.m. start.
