JOHN DAY — With a major meet scheduled for later in the week, the Union track and field team sent a small contingent of younger student athletes to compete in the Small School Invitational on Tuesday, April 16, at Grant Union High School.
The small group of Bobcats made the most of the competition with sophomore Kai Russell picking up a personal best throw of 79 feet, 7 inches to place 11th in the boys discus.
In the girls discus, freshman Hailey Wright also found her personal best throw of a young career, hitting the mark at 45 feet, 6 inches for a 18th place showing.
Freshman Kari Stockhoff finished just outside the top 10 in the girls long jump event, taking 11th with a leap of 10 feet, 3 inches. Fellow freshman Hailey Wright placed 15th in the same event.
The majority of the Union team will be found on the campus of Eastern Oregon University on April 20 as the Bobcats join 32 teams for the Cove Charter 1A-2A-3A Invitational. Field events begin at 10 a.m. with running events starting at noon.
