LA GRANDE — As Pendleton boarded the bus for the return trip home after two games in La Grande, both the Bucs and Tigers suffered their respective first 4A Greater Oregon League loss and each picked up a league victory.

Playing in a doubleheader in La Grande, the Tigers and Buckaroos split for the day and remained tied at the top of the league standings. The two teams also remain top five squads in the state standings with Pendleton holding down the third position with La Grande one spot behind at fourth.

Game one saw the Tigers scatter 12 hits but commit three errors with Pendleton taking a 9-7 win.

Carlee Strand was on the mound for the entire game, allowing nine hits while striking out six Buckaroos in the 146 pitches thrown.

Junior Austyn Meuser took over pitching duties for game two as La Grande avenged the earlier loss with an 11-9 victory. The offense was led in the game with both Marti Anderson and Strand putting two balls over the fence for homeruns each.

The Tigers combined for 14 hits and again committed three errors in the game.

Meusser was credited with the win, going five innings and striking out three Pendleton batters while allowing 15 hits. In relief, Strand pitched two innings, striking out a single Buckaroo and allowing no hits.

La Grande (12-1 overall, 5-1 4A Greater Oregon League) will be on the practice field for the week, not returning to action until April 26 when the team hosts Baker/Powder Valley for two games starting at 2 p.m. The previous meeting with the Bulldogs was all La Grande as the Tigers put up 31 runs in two games, allowing Baker/Powder Valley to cross home plate only once.
