College baseball: EOU earns split with late rally

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The Eastern Oregon baseball team used a five-run 12th inning to pull ahead of Central Washington and head on for an 11-9 victory in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday. EOU dropped the first game 9-1.

The finale was tied at 6-all in the eighth inning before scoreless frames in the next three. In the 12th Parker Cumberland singled to left to score Rogelio Gonzales followed by a Benat Van Hoose single to plate two more runs. Aston Milton filed out to score the final run and give EOU an 11-6 advantage.

Central Washington would use a triple and two singles to score three runs before the rally ended.

Cumberland and Milton both had three hits while Milton drove in three runs. The Mountaineers had 14 hits in the game.

Central Washington used a six-run eighth inning to break open a 2-1 game to win the opener. Cumberland had a hit and drove in a run for EOU and Brock Cordes struck out seven.

EOU is now 14-31 on the season and travels to Walla Walla, Washington on Tuesday for a single game against Whitman College.
