LA GRANDE — Taking the field on an emotion filled day, the La Grande softball team saw a number of balls sail over the fence as the Tigers downed visiting Baker/Powder Valley in both games of a 4A Greater Oregon League doubleheader.

Using six home runs in the opener, La Grande needed only five innings to take a 11-0 shoutout victory over the Bulldogs. Maddie Seavert and Marti Anderson both hit two over the fence, while Carlee Strand and Joselyn Dodds each added a single home run in the game.

Strand also pitched the entire game, striking out six Bulldogs while allowing only a single hit in the 17 batters faced.

The chasing of the balls over the fence calmed somewhat in game two as La Grande belted only two home runs in a 16-6 win over Baker/Powder Valley in a six inning game.

Seavert added her third home run of the day in game two while Strand added her second home run of the series in game two.

Austyn Meuser pitched the initial four innings, striking out seven batters while allowing seven hits. Strand came in to close out the final two innings, striking out three Bulldogs and allowing a single hit.

La Grande (14-1 overall, 7-1 4A Greater Oregon League) remains at home on Tuesday, April 30, hosting the Ontario Tigers (3-12 overall, 0-8 4A Greater Oregon League) for two games. Tiger fans should note the early 2 p.m. start time for game one.

La Grande and Pendleton remain at the top of the league standings, each with only a single loss against each other. Both teams are also holding top five statewide rankings with the Buckaroos sitting third and the Tigers fifth.
