JOHN DAY — In a battle of two teams with unblemished district records, only one would remain with a perfect 2A/1A Special District 7 showing.

Playing on its home field, the Grant Union/Prairie City/Monument baseball team handed Union/Cove the team’s first district loss as the Prospectors downed the Bobcats, 10-0, on Wednesday, May 1.

The loss ended a six-game win streak for the Bobcats reaching back to April 16.

Union/Cove now trails both the Prospectors and Heppner/Ione as both teams stand at 10-0 in the district standings.

The Bobcats (10-8 overall, 9-1 2A/1A Special District 7) wrap up the regular season with two home games and a chance for redemption on Friday, May 3. Grant Union/Prairie City/Monument (14-6 overall, 10-0 2A/1A Special District 7) will be in town for a doubleheader with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
