High school girls golf: Tigers, Buckaroos tie at Buffalo Peak

UNION — As the final golfer exited the course at the Buffalo Peak Golf Course on Friday, May 3, both La Grande and Pendleton/Nixyaawii ended the day with identical team golf scores of 408, a tie for the tournament title.
The host team of Union/Imbler/Cove failed to qualify for a team score as only two golfers participated.
Senior Dylann Justice led La Grande, placing third individually after firing a 91 on the Buffalo Peak course. Senior Emma Bell finished sixth with a 96 and junior Natasha Lane tied for ninth on the individual board after shooting a 104.
Junior Olesya Forbes ended her day with a 117 and sophomore Maylie Eby shot a 123.
For the host Bobcats, freshman Cora Royes placed 12 th individually with a score of 114 and Tivian Tipple shot a 143.
Dufur’s Tygh Timinsky was the top golfer of the day, shooting a 6-over par 78.
Both La Grande and Union/Cove/Imbler will have only the weekend to rest as the 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 4 Championship kicks off May 6 at the Quail Ridge Course in Baker City. Joining the Tigers and Bobcats will be teams from Baker/Powder Valley, Burns, Dufur, Echo/Stanfield, Enterprise, Grant Union, Heppner/Ione, Joseph, McLoughlin/Weston-McEwen, Nixyaawii, Nyssa/Adrian, Ontario, Pendleton/Griswold, Riverside, Trinity Lutheran, Umatilla, Vale and Wallowa.
The top two teams from the district tournament will advance to state play. In addition, the top five individuals also receive automatic qualification to the state tournament.
