UNION — With two teams battling for postseason opportunities, the Echo/Stanfield softball team made things more difficult for Union/Cove as the Cougars grabbed wins in both games of a doubleheader on Friday, May 3, in Union.

Echo/Stanfield took the victory in game one 7-3 and followed it up with a 10-4 2A/1A Special District 7 win in game two.

The losses drop the LadyCats down to fifth place in the district standings with just over one week remaining in the regular season.

Union/Cove (8-12 overall, 4-7 2A/1A Special District 7) is again on the home field on May 7 with the Grant Union Prospectors (17-3 overall, 9-2 2A/1A Special District 7) in town for a 5 p.m. start. The Prospectors remain the top ranked team in the state even after falling to Weston-McEwen/Griswold in two games on Friday, May 3. In John Day on May 1, Grant Union/Prairie City downed the LadyCats 15-1 in five innings in the teams’ previous meeting of the season.
