Union County may never have had so many candidates running for a single county commissioner position at the same time in the primary season. We can certainly say thank you to the nine men and women running, More candidates mean we should end up selecting a really good commissioner.

Toward that end I recommend one candidate who stands out and I am giving him my personal endorsement. I have known John Coote for about 40 years and recommend him without reservation. John is probably best known in Union County as an auctioneer, and in that regard agriculture and livestock sales are at the center of those activities, but he is equally at ease at estate sales. He is regularly asked to help many civic or charitable groups.. The Fat Stock Sale at Eastern Oregon Livestock Show is an example.

John also has strong analytical skills and would be a natural to navigate county government that surrounds fiscal responsibility and budgetary issues. Another attribute of a successful commissioner is that he or she must have an ability to listen to their constituents and understand their concerns. John Coote is qualified in this regard.

How else could he represent our county in matters with state or federal representatives? I believe John when he claims to be a fiscal conservative. I am confident that my friend would be an outstanding advocate for Union County.
