High school boys golf: Tigers season ends at district

BAKER CITY — The golf season has come to a close for the La Grande boys golf team as the Tigers finished third at the 4A Special District 4 Championship after two days of action wrapped up Tuesday, May 7, at the Quail Ridge Golf Course in Baker City.

On its home course, Baker/Powder Valley swept the top five individual finishes led by district champion Elias Long. The Bulldogs finished the two days with a team total 648 with Pendleton/Griswold placing second after a 704 total. La Grande finished third in the team scores with a 814. Both the Bulldogs and Buckaroos now advance to the state tournament.

Jaxen Doud finished up his high school career with the top individual finish for the Tigers, placing 11 th after a 193-stroke total. Doud started the tournament with a 94 on day one, finishing with a 99 on day two.

In his first district tournament, freshman Brody Miller was one position behind Doud, placing 12th. Beginning with a first day total 102, Miller cut seven strokes off in the second day to finish with a 197. Joining the duo and making it a trio, Kason Carlson finished 13th with a 215-stroke total.

After starting the play in Baker on day one with a 105, junior Marco Fuentes found problems on day two, firing a 116 and ending with a 221 total for 15th place. Placing 16th, senior Gavin Winagar pushed through a 131 day one total, cutting 27 strokes off in his second day and finishing with a 235 total.
