High school baseball: La Grande suffers sweep at hands of Pendleton/Nixyaawii

PENDLETON — For the third and fourth time in four days, the La Grande baseball team fell to Pendleton/Nixyaawii, ending the regular season as runner-up in the 4A Greater Oregon League standings.
Taking to the road and playing two games at Bob White Field in Pendleton on Friday, May 10, La Grande saw Pendleton/Nixyaawii break a 2-all tie in the third inning on the way to a 6-3 victory in game one.
The chance for a win in game two appeared good for the Tigers as La Grande led 5-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Bucs responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 10-5 win.
La Grande closes out the 4A Greater Oregon League regular season with a second-place showing in the league standings and a 7-5 record.
The Tigers (11-9 overall) still have one game left on the season schedule as La Grande returns home on May 14 to host 3A Wallowa Valley (18-3 overall) with a 4 p.m. start.
