High school baseball: Mustangs end Union/Cove season

HEPPNER — A second round 2A/1A Special District 7 playoff loss to Heppner/Ione has closed out the baseball season for the Union/Cove team on Friday, May 10.

Leading from the first inning, the Mustangs downed the Bobcats 6-4 in playoff action. Heppner/Ione was on the board early, putting up a run in the first inning and adding three additional runs in the third.

Union/Cove finally hit the scoreboard in the top of the sixth. The Bobcats added three runs in the top of the seventh before the Mustangs closed out the game on a ground out.

Heppner/Ione advances to play for the district title against Grant Union on May 14.

Union/Cove hangs up the jerseys for the year with an 11-11 overall record, including a 9-3 2A/1A Special District 7 showing.

Coach Greg Poor and the Bobcats take to the field next season without departing seniors Wyatt Burgess, Kade McLean, Tee Ledbetter, Elijah Gliddon and Trae Frank.
