UNION — The last half of the 2A/1A Special District 7 softball season was not kind to Union/Cove, culminating with two losses to league champion Weston-McEwen/Griswold on Friday, May 10, in Union. The two losses extended the LadyCats loss streak to six games, all league matchups.
Weston-McEwen/Griswold only needed five innings in game one to take a 12-0 victory. The LadyCats could only manage a single hit in the game while the TigerScots put the runs on the board and led 8-0 after three innings. An additional four runs in the fifth kicked in the mercy rule to end the game.
Game two saw the two teams scoreless through the initial two innings. Weston-McEwen/Griswold came alive in the fifth with five runs and added four runs in the sixth to end the game with a 10-0 victory.
Union/Cove closes out the 2A/1A Special District 7 season with a 4-10 record, tied for sixth in the district standings with Elgin/Imbler.
The LadyCats (8-15 overall) will continue with nonleague action on May 15 with a trip to La Grande to meet the Tiger junior varsity team for two games.
