High school track and field: Panthers sweep 1A Special District 4 team titles

BAKER CITY — The bus ride home to Imbler from the 1A Special District 4 track and field championship contained not one but two district trophies as both the Imbler boys and girls claimed the top team scores after a day’s competition in Baker City on Friday, May 10.
The Imbler boys cruised to the win, putting up 139.5 points for the day’s action. Adrian, finishing second, was far back with 87.5 points with Cove placing third after an 81-point day.
Senior Jake Bingaman led the way for Imbler, winning the 100-meters and placing second in the 200-meter races while setting new personal records. In the 100, Bingaman crossed the finish in 11.46 seconds. His time in the 200, 23.69 seconds, was also the quickest time of his career. Bingaman added to his day with a victory in the long jump with a measurement of 21 feet, 06 inches.
Junior Adam Gordon will soon find his name on the board at Imbler High School after his second place showing in the 1,500, 4 minutes, 12.14 seconds, is a new school record.
Senior Trevor Treat ruled the hurdle events, winning the 110-meter event in 15.68 seconds and taking the tape in the 300-meters in a time of 40.78 seconds.
The Panthers also swept the relay events. Treat, Bingaman, Dallin Rasmussen and Clinton Tarvin combined for a 44.21 second 4-by-100 relay win, also a new school record. Tarvin, Rasmussen, Treat and Adam Gordon then joined for a win in the 4-by-400 relay with a time of 3 minutes, 35.21 seconds.
The Imbler girls used the distance events to place points on the board led by junior Paiten Braseth’s win in the 3,000 with a time of 11 minutes, 53.34 seconds. The junior also placed second in the 800 while sophomore Paige Braseth picked up second in the 1,500 meters.
The Panthers were victorious in the 4-by-100 relay with a team comprised of Austyn Tutner, Jeytt Cant, Paiten Braseth and Katelynn Pedro posting a time of 50.96 seconds.
A throw of 104-10 also added one more victory for Imbler as junior Jayda Cant pick up the top medal in the discus.
