College track & field: Eastern OregonTakes CCC Championships in Men’s and Women’s Track

KLAMATH FALLS — The Eastern Oregon University track & field program made history this past weekend, sweeping the men’s and women’s Cascade Collegiate Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Klamath Falls.

The victories mark the first time in program history that the Mountaineers have won both side of the CCC Championships. The victory on the men’s side is the fourth consecutive conference title for Eastern Oregon.

Men’s

The Mountaineers finished the competition with 176 team points, edging out British Columbia who finished with 129.

TJ Davis had a productive meet, winning the men’s decathlon in dominant fashion — he placed in the top three of every event and won seven of the decathlon events. In addition, Davis won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.85 and placed third in the men’s 400-meter hurdles at 53.73. Israel Miles finished as the runner up in the decathlon, taking first place in the pole vault and top three in three total events. Miles placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.10.

Hunter Nichols came away victorious in the 1,500 meters, winning the event with a time of 3:45.56. He also won the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:26.10.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Justin Ash won the event with a time of 9:24.36.

Tyler Jones won the CCC men’s high jump, leaping 2.02 meters for the win.

In the 200 meters, Osman Osman secured fifth place with a time of 21.76. He also came in fourth in the 400 meters at 47.75, a new personal record.

In the throws, Tanner Nett led the way with a gold medal in the shot put at 18.09 meters. Mark Church placed third in discus with a mark of 46.75 meters. He also placed fourth in the hammer throw at 51.40 meters.

Women’s

Lizzy Grandle led the way in the heptathlon for the Mountaineers, placing second with 4946 points. She took victories in the high jump and javelin, placing top three in a combined five events.

Taylor Joyce led the way in the 400 meters, winning the event with a time of 56.71, a new personal best. Kadence Beck placed fourth (58.71) and Sydney Peck placed fifth (58.73).

The Mountaineers saw success in the throws, as Kenna Woodward earned gold in the discus throw with a mark of 40.78 meters. She also won the hammer throw at a mark of 55.16 meters, a new personal record. Woodward came in second in the shot put, throwing 12.74 meters.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Peck placed third with a time of 15.10, a new personal record. In the 400-meter hurdles, Skotlyn Hill took second overall at 1:03.69 and Peck placed fourth with a time of 1:04.26.

Joyce also placed third in the 200 meters, clocking in at 25.65. Beck was just behind in fourth at 26.08.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Saide McCoy placed fifth with a time of 12:14.15. Kaleah Hines placed fifth in the women’s 10,000 meters, finishing at 44:22.46.

Outside of the heptathlon, Grandle saw success in the high jump, placing third at a height of 1.68 meters. She also placed second overall in the javelin throw with a distance of 42.30 meters. Sammy Conley was just behind in third place at 41.22 meters.

In the pole vault, Joyce placed third at 3.35 meters and Harlee Grant placed fourth at 3.15 meters.

The women’s 4×400 meter relay team placed first overall to conclude the meet, clocking in at 3:51.60.

Next up, the Mountaineers will gear up for the NAIA Championships, which are hosted in Marion, Indiana. The competition begins on May 22.
