EUGENE — As community members continue to raise money to replace a dirt track, the Imbler track and field team showed talent and work can overcome limited resources.

The Imbler boys team claimed the OSAA Class 1A state track and field title and the girls team placed second as action concluded late Friday, May 17, at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Entering the final event of the two days, the 4-by-400 relay, Imbler’s boys team held an insurmountable point total. Adding an exclamation point to the event, the team composed of Dallin Rasmusssen, Trevor Treat, Adam Gordon and Clinton Tarvin won the race, setting a personal best time of 3 minutes, 34.11 seconds. The 10 points for the victory upped the team’s total to 77 points, well ahead of second place Myrtle Point’s 50 and third-place Joseph’s 42 point total.

In addition to bringing home the “big blue trophy,” numerous individual medals also made the return trip on the bus.

Senior Trevor Treat, already signed to run track for the College of Idaho, picked up a state title in the 110 hurdles, running a personal best time of 15.13 seconds. The winning continued for Treat, who crossed the line ahead of the field in the 300 hurdles with an additional personal best time of 40.53 seconds.

Junior Adam Gordon will return to Eugene next season looking for a first-place medal after finishing second in the 800, running under 2 minutes for his first time ever. Gordon crossed the line in 1 minute, 59.99 seconds. He also added to the team’s point total with a fourth-place showing in the 1,500.

Jeremiah Martin picked up second in the shot put as the senior closed out his high school competition with a career best 48 feet, 11.4 inches.

Fellow senior Jake Bingaman was busy the entire final day. Placing fourth in the 100 with a time of 11.56 seconds, Bingaman took fourth place in the 200 with a time of 23.28 seconds. After placing third in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 8 inches, Bingaman returned to second place as he joined Treat, Rasmussen and Tarvin in the 4-by-100 relay and a time of 44.76 seconds.

In his initial state meet, freshman Ayden Lucas placed seventh in the 800 with a personal best time of 2 minutes, 3.58 seconds.

The Imbler girls finished four points behind Adrian in the race for a state title. Adrian, with just four competitors, ended with 68 points, while the Panthers put up 64 points. As with most state track and field meets, one event could have made the difference in the competition — the Imbler 4-by-100 relay team, well ahead and appearing to cruise to victory, was disqualified after a baton exchange was mishandled.

Junior Paiten Braseth picked up two individual titles after running personal best times in two races. She won the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 24.05 seconds followed by a victory in the 3,000 after crossing the line in 10 minutes, 51.25 seconds. She then joined Isla Howard, Paige Braseth and Austyn Turner for a third individual first-place medal in the 4-by-400 relay after the four ran a time of 4 minutes, 12.52 seconds.

Freshman Jeytt Cant started her high school career with a second as she jumped 16 feet, 3 inches in the long jump. Cant also placed fourth in the 200 with a personal best time of 26.86 seconds.

In addition to her medal as a member of the relay team, Paige Braseth picked up fourth in the 800 with a personal best time of 5 minutes, 9.63 seconds. Turner also added to her medal count from the relay team with a third-place showing in the 300 hurdles, finishing her high school career with a personal best time of 47.46 seconds.

Junior Jayda Cant put together a fourth place showing in the shot put with a fifth place in the discus for Imbler. Freshman Josephine Bingaman added to the Imbler girls team total by placing eighth in the triple jump.

The Powder Valley girls 4-by-100 relay team won the state championship Friday, May 17, at Eugene’s Hayward Field, and the Badgers placed third in the team standings. The team of Ayla Bingham, Lyndi Bingham, Emmie Dickinson and Sky Nesser finished the relay in 51.45 seconds.

Nesser, in addition to anchoring the 4×100 team, placed second in the 100, and third in the 200 and the high jump. And teammate Sammy Gressley was fifth in the 100, 200 and long jump.
