LA GRANDE — A 72-year-old mushroom picker was found about 80 minutes after he had been reported missing about 5 miles from of Pilcher Creek Reservoir on Wednesday, May 29.

The man, who did not need medical treatment, was found at about 2:20 p.m. shortly after a Union County Sheriff’s Office sergeant arrived ahead of a Union County Search and Rescue party. The deputy told the friend to go back to where he had last seen the man in case he found his way out of the woods. About five minutes later the man emerged from the woods, according to Union County Emergency Manager Nick Vora.

The mushroom picker was found 19 miles southwest of La Grande. The Union County Search and Rescue party included about seven individuals, a command trailer and two side-by-side utility vehicles. The search and rescue team also had a bloodhound en route plus an additional nine party members who were to arrive later.
