LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon University has opened facilities at its main campus to people affected by wildfire activity.
The main campus area has opened, effective Friday, July 26, to accommodate displaced evacuees from wildfires in the region and includes features such as Wi-Fi, recreational vehicle camping, access to the campus library and the Hoke Union Building food pantry.
In a press release on July 26, EOU President Kelly Ryan said the opening of the main campus to the public is an effort to offer a safe and welcoming space to evacuees of the fires.
“We want to provide a place for our community to find relief from the smoke and heat,” Ryan said in the press statement.
The facilities will be open to the public from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, with limited weekend hours. RV camping limits pets to two per vehicle and the rock climbing wall is also open for recreational use.
Temporary parking passes for RV camping are required and can be found at the Campus Safety and Security Office, located in Loso Hall, Suite 154. Members of the public are asked to check in with the office before using any facilities.
Those planning to use the campus are advised to call Campus Safety and Security at 541-962-3911.
