LA GRANDE — A fire broke out at the base of Mount Emily on Monday, Aug. 5, but firefighters quickly brought it under control and had the fire lined and mopped up by 9 p.m.

The fire, which was less than an acre when it was reported at about 1 p.m. Monday, is located west of Tamarack Springs Lane, according to a press release from Union County Emergency Services. But fire officials worried that the blaze had high growth potential because of the slope of the mountain.

The Oregon Department of Forestry responded to the fire, along with private contractors, a local fire department and state and federal resources. As of Monday night, two hand crews, five engines and one water tender were on the scene. Crews on the fire were in a patrol status, according to an ODF Facebook post.
