LA GRANDE — The home of Meredith Matthews, 601 M Ave., has been selected for the city of La Grande’s summer beautification award.

Williams has replaced the lawn in her yard and parking strip with native plants and other perennials to create a diverse, pollinator-friendly, low-maintenance landscape.

The beautification award for a commercial property was given to Eastern Wheelworks, 711 Adams Ave. Business owner Sean Lerner credits his mother-in-law, Suzanne Funk, for maintaining the colorful planting beds and Valley Lawn and Landscape for installing the landscaping and pavers.

The Beautification Awards Program recognizes residential and commercial properties that add to the beauty, diversity and sustainability of La Grande’s environment.

The nominations are judged by the La Grande Community Landscape and Forestry Commission selection committee.

The award winners receive a letter from the commission, a certificate signed by the mayor and a yard sign for the season.
