High-speed pursuit ends in Union County

This truck was used in a high speed, multicounty pursuit through Eastern Oregon on Aug. 20, 2024, which ended in Union County. Quintin Collett was arrested in connection with the pursuit. The truck was reported stolen out of Nampa, Idaho.

UNION COUNTY — A high speed pursuit crossed multiple county lines before ending in Union County on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Quintin Collett, 24, of Middleton, Idaho, was taken into custody for reckless driving, attempting to elude, first-degree theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and criminal trespass, according to a press release. Collett was also arrested on two out-of-state warrants.

Oregon State Police requested assistance from the Union County Sheriff’s Office after Collett reportedly fled from law enforcement and eluded troopers through multiple counties on Interstate 84. Police said Collett was traveling over 100 mph while driving through a construction zone in Union County where he ultimately exited the interstate before fleeing onto private property.

Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene and pursued Collett as he headed toward the Hot Lake area, according to the press release. Sheriff Cody Bowen, deputies and troopers searched for Collett and a second, unnamed suspect.

Law enforcement spotted the two suspects from the top of a ridge just over 1 mile south of Hot Lake, according to the press release. Collett and the second suspect were reportedly seen running on foot down the ridge. Union County Sheriff’s Office and OSP converged on the suspects and took them both into custody.

No information has been released about the second suspect as of 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 20.

The pickup driven during the pursuit was reported stolen out of Nampa, Idaho, according to the release.
