Cook Memorial Library plans bumper crop of activities for November

The city of La Grande's proposed 2024-25 budget calls for two part-time positions to become full-time positions at Cook Memorial Library, the west entrance of which is shown here on May 14, 2024, which would improve the library's security and services.

Eastern Oregon University students are invited to create accounts at the Cook Memorial Library — and could collect a little swag in the process.

Beginning Nov. 1, current EOU students creating new accounts will received a goody bag and be entered into a prize drawing.

Here are highlights of activities in a busy November at the library:

• LEGO Club meets Tuesday, Nov. 5. For children up through age 12, the program runs from 3 to 5 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month.

• Come “Create at the 906!” Teens ages 13-18 are invited to participate in a free craft program with all supplies provided, at the 906 Youth Resource Center, 906 Sixth St. in La Grande from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

• Did you know that nearly 300 people in Union County have patented inventions? Local author David Yerges will talk about some of their stories on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s Community Room.

• GO-STEM is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. in the Community Room. “Where Sunshine Meets Science” explores color-changing slime. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

• The EOU Community Writing Center is open Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14, and 21. EOU student tutors are available for brainstorming, project planning, homework help, grammar, and more!

• Storytime, featuring stories and crafts, will be held on Thursdays, Nov. 7 and 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the Story Circle. Join us for stories and crafts. No Storytimes on Nov. 21 or 28.

• Spells & Stars Book Club for adults meets Saturday, Nov. 16 at 3 pm. The book up for discussion is “The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making,” by Catherynne Valente.

CHD is providing an art program, “Art Out Loud,” for ages 0- 18 where kids can explore and express their feelings and experiences through creating art. This free group meets Fridays, with ages 0-11 from 3-4 pm, and ages 12-18 from 4-5 p.m. in the Community Room. Contact Taylor McCarrell at tmccarrell@chdinc.org for more information. No Art Out Loud on Nov. 29.
