NORTH POWDER — Two commercial truck drivers were killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 at the southern base of Ladd Canyon late on New Year’s Day that closed the westbound lanes of the freeway for about 10 hours.

Robert Fred Kenyon, 60, of Nampa, Idaho, and Steven Bradly Botter, 47, of Spokane, died at the scene, according to Oregon State Police.

Another driver, Sing Manvir, 28, of Fresno, California, was injured and taken to a local hospital.

According to OSP, the investigation showed Kenyon, who was driving a Mack truck and trailer, had stopped to put on chains near the Clover Creek interchange, about 6 miles north of North Powder, during a snowstorm around 10:25 p.m.

A Freightliner truck and trailer driven by Botter went off the freeway for unknown reasons and hit Kenyon’s parked truck, according to OSP.

Manvir, who was driving another Freightliner truck, then hit the two other vehicles, which were propelled onto the freeway by the initial collision, OSP Capt. Kyle Kennedy wrote in an email to the Baker City Herald.

The crash remains under investigation.
