COVE — The Cove City Council has a lot of old business to wrap up during the first meeting of the year Tuesday, Jan. 7, beginning at 7 p.m. at Cove City Hall, 504 Alder St.

Before addressing new business items, councilors will continue discussions from previous meetings. The council will follow up on a municipal court discussion and burn ban ordinance. Councilors will continue discussions on a safe path to schools project, community beautification recognition program, new GIS agreement and whether to require signatures or have a fee for city council and mayoral candidates.

Councilors will revisit a discussion on adding sound absorbing boards to reduce the echo in city hall and will schedule a work session.

Under new business, the council will hold a question-and-answer session for incoming council members. Councilors also consider approving the proposed policy for step increases and employee evaluations.

Councilors will receive reports from the working committee, City Recorder Lana Shira, Public Works Director Dave Johnson and Mayor Sherry Haeger. The youth councilor also will present a report.

The meeting will be streamed live through GoToMeeting at meet.goto.com/CityofCove.
