November jobless numbers mixed in Northeastern Oregon

SALEM — Unemployment rose in three of Northeastern Oregon’s six counties in November while holding steady in the others, according to the latest data from the Oregon Employment Department.

The biggest spike came in Grant County, where the jobless rate jumped by more than half a point to 5.2%, up from 4.5% in October.

Unemployment in Wallowa County climbed to 3.8% in November from 3.4% the prior month, while Baker County’s jobless rate rose to 3.7% from 3.5%.

Elsewhere in the region, unemployment levels were flat from October to November, holding steady at 3.3% in Morrow County, 3.6% in Umatilla and 4.1% in Union.

Adjusted for typical seasonal fluctuations, no county in Northeastern Oregon saw its jobless numbers shift by more than a 10th of a point month to month.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November dipped to 4.1% from 4.2% in Baker County, to 3.7% from 3.8% in Morrow and to 4.6% from 4.7% in Union. The rate inched up to 6.0% from 5.9% in Grant and stayed even at 4.1% in Umatilla and 4.4% in Wallowa.
