From the editor’s desk: Introducing new ways to submit obituaries and more

Published 9:00 am Saturday, January 11, 2025

Dear readers,

The East Oregonian publishes paid obituaries, memoriams and cards of thanks, as well as free death notices.

Funeral homes often submit these notices as a service to families they are assisting, however, families also may place their own notices online at lagrandeobserver.com/obituaries.

For assistance, email obits@lagrandeobserver.com or call the newspaper office at 541-276-2211.

The deadline for submission to the East Oregonian is 10 a.m. Friday prior to publication.

We’ve also changing the way we list upcoming events on our websites.

Our old events calendar, What’s Happening, was phased out at the end of 2024.

In its place, we’re phasing in the Go! Eastern Oregon online calendar.

Go!, of course, is the weekly arts and entertainment calendar that comes in each week’s print edition of the East Oregonian. In addition to articles on concerts, art exhibitions, books, movies and cultural activities, every issue of Go! includes a comprehensive calendar of upcoming events across all of Northeastern Oregon, divided into sections by county.

There’s an even more comprehensive version of the Go! calendar online, and you can add your upcoming events to it directly on our website — for free.

Just go to our homepage and scroll down to the Go! Eastern Oregon section. You’ll see a rotating selection of calendar listings moving across the screen, along with ads for highlighted events.

You’ll also see two red buttons marked Add Your Event. Click on either one to get started adding your own calendar listings. The software will prompt you to fill in day, time, place, ticket info and other event details, and you can add images, schedule listings for repeat events and choose enhanced promotion options.

We hope you’ll take advantage of the opportunity to list all your upcoming events in the Go! calendar. Readers will still be able to find your listing on our website, but you’ll also be able to leverage the broader reach of Go! to get your event in front of people throughout all of Northeastern Oregon.

As always, you can find more about community events and other news at each of our websites: East Oregonian, Baker City Herald, Blue Mountain Eagle, Hermiston Herald, The Observer and Wallowa County Chieftain.
