PENDLETON — Artists from across Northeastern Oregon and Southeastern Washington may submit work for this year’s Open Regional Exhibit at the Pendleton Center for the Arts.

The center is accepting submissions noon to 4 p.m. March 8.

The exhibit opens in the East Oregonian Gallery on March 14 with refreshments at 5:30 p.m. and a judge’s critique and award ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

This year marks the 52th anniversary of the Open Regional Exhibit, which brings beginning, emerging and established artists together to share their best work. Adults 18 and over may enter up to two pieces and a special category is available for artists 13-17 years old.

Accepted works include but are not limited to painting, printmaking, book arts, glass, sculpture, mixed media and fiber arts. Photography is the only medium the exhibit does not accept.

While the exhibit is not juried, there are some limitations on size and weight, which are outlined in the entry form available at PendletonArts.org at the Pendleton Center for the Arts, 214 N. Main St., Pendleton.

Banner Bank of Pendleton is a long-time sponsor of the Open Regional and contributes $1,200 in cash prizes in the adult and teen categories. Visitors to the gallery also have an opportunity to vote for their favorite work, and the winner receives the Jacqueline Brown People’s Choice Award, made possible through the generosity of Kathryn Brown and Andrew Picken.

This year’s judge is Kendra Roberts, founder of Common Ground Arts, an arts consultancy curating visual art in traditional and nontraditional public spaces. As the designer and creator of Kendra Studio Jewelry, she is an award-winning artist and published writer, has exhibited her work throughout the U.S. and internationally. Her judge’s critique will provide insight into why selected works were singled out for awards and provide some professional development tips for artists looking to further their work.

The exhibit will be on view through April 25. Admission to the gallery is free.
