High school boys basketball: Union Overcomes Echo’s Hot Shooting

ECHO – When you play a team shooting over 50% from the three point arc, you need to place points on the board for a victory.

That is exactly what the Union boys’ basketball team accomplished as the Bobcats downed Echo 80-64 in 1A Old Oregon League play on Friday, Jan. 19 in Echo

“We knew that Echo was going to be a tough place to play,” said Union coach Odin Miller. “They came out fired up and absolutely lights out from the three point range. They ended up making 11 threes and shot over 50% from three.”

This game was much closer at halftime compared to the final score as the Bobcats led the Cougars 32-24 as the two teams hit the locker room.

“We kept our composure and made our run in the second half to put the game away,” Miller said. “Controlling the tempo is critical against Echo and we did a much better job of that in the second half. There is always going to be things to work on as we pursue a spot at state and we will take some valuable lessons away from this tough league game.”

For the Bobcats, Tee Ledbetter had a stellar night, putting in 34 points and 14 rebounds to go with three blocked shots. Chase Koshinsky added 21 points and 17 rebounds. Evan Cloutier ended his night with 10 points.

Union (13-4 overall, 3-0 1A Old Oregon League) is scheduled to continue both league and road games on Saturday, Jan. 20 with a trip to Griswold (2-11 overall, 0-2 1A Old Oregon League).
