La Grande took a few minutes to get going, not placing one point on the board until Maezie Wilcox sank one of two free throws with the clock showing 6 minutes, 27 seconds left in the first quarter. Finding the rhythm, La Grande went on to lead 11-4 at the end of the first quarter.
La Grande’s press continually upended Ontario’s attempts to get the ball down the floor and as the two teams entered the locker room at the half, La Grande held a comfortable 27-9 margin.
After opening the second half with a 21-point third quarter, La Grande coach Brian Wright made use of his bench for the easy Greater Oregon League win.

“Ontario has a couple kids that play well,” Wright said of Ontario. “I admire the Ontario coach and her team for sticking with it tonight.”
La Grande spent much of the game at the free throw line as Wright saw his team shoot 27 free throws for the night.
From the line, Wilcox was 7-for-10 and had nine points on the night. Rowan Evans led all scorers in the game with 13 points and Kayle Collman matched Wilcox with nine points. A total of 10 players added to the La Grande victory score.
Wright and the La Grande team now have a week to ponder how to avenge a Jan. 9 loss to Baker. The Lady Tigers will be on the road on Friday, Jan. 26 to Bulldog country in a game not only for the lead of the Greater Oregon League but in a showdown of two top 10 4A state teams.
