College men’s basketball: Eastern Oregon cruises past Walla Walla

LA GRANDE — The Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team jumped back into the win column in emphatic fashion on Saturday, January 6.

The Mountaineers defeated Walla Walla 101-60, the team’s first 100-point game of the season. The victory improved Eastern Oregon’s record to 4-10 on the season and 3-5 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
Eastern Oregon never trailed in the game and led by as much as 48 points during the blowout victory. Out of the gates, Eastern Oregon shot 17-31 (54.84%) from the field in the first half en route to building a 53-30 lead at the half. Jaden Hansen and Garrett Hawkes led the way in scoring in the first half, scoring 10 points each. AJ Huddleston and Jonny Hillman each added nine points.
The second half was more of the same, as the Mountaineers held a 48-39 advantage. Huddleston added 12 points to finish with 21 on the day. Eastern Oregon shot 19-33 (57.58%) from the field in the second half and 8-14 (57.14%) from three.

On the day, the Mountaineers totaled 37 bench points and 38 points in the paint. Six Mountaineers scored nine or more points in a well-balanced effort. Kamal Muhammad totaled nine points and nine rebounds.
Coming off the win, Eastern Oregon is set for a back-to-back on the road next weekend. The Mountaineers will face Bushnell at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 12 and Corban at 5 p.m. on Jan. 13.
