UNION — The league season is off for both Union and Elgin with the Bobcats claiming a 66-29 win over the Huskies in 1A Old Oregon League action after a game in Union on Friday, Jan. 5.

Union started the game off with identical 20-point first and second quarters to lead Elgin 40-12 at halftime. After Elgin only managed two points in the third quarter, Union finished out the game with the starters on the bench.

“Our starters played really well in the first 2-1/2 quarters before the young guys came in,” Union head coach Odin Miller said. “I was really happy with our temp and execution, and we shot well from the field and spread the ball around nicely.”

Miller had praise for Union’s opponents after the game.

“Coach Johnson has the Elgin program headed in a really good direction,” he said. “The Elgin boys played hard and have improved a lot over the past few years.”

The Bobcats saw 12 points from Chase Koshinsky and 10 points each from Tee Ledbetter and Evan Cloutier with all three players sitting down early.

In the loss, Elgin’s Hunter Myers put in seven points and Collin Smith added six points.

Union (10-3 overall, 1-0 1A Old Oregon League) was scheduled to continue Old Oregon play at home against Powder Valley (7-6 overall, 1-0 1A Old Oregon League). Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Imbler 56, Cove 40

COVE — Only scoring seven points to start the game, Imbler finished with 21 points in the final quarter to take a 56-40 1A Old Oregon League victory over Cove on Friday, Jan. 5.

Fans saw both squads struggle to find the basket in the first eight minutes and as the second quarter started, Imbler held a slim 7-6 margin. Adding 14 points to their total, Imbler led at the half, 21-13 over Cove.

“This was a really nice start to league,” Imbler head coach Tony Haddock said. “Both teams just played their butts off.
