High school boys basketball: Wallowa gets past Badgers

POWDER VALLEY — Playing the third of a five-game road schedule, Wallowa rebounded from a loss on Friday, Jan. 19, in Cove with a 40-37 victory over Powder Valley on Jan. 20.

The Cougars were out early in the game, leading the Badgers 19-13 at the half. The Wallowa defense allowed Powder Valley to place four points on the board in the second quarter. Wallowa had its own problems in the third quarter, adding only three points to the team’s total but outscored the Badgers 18-14 in the final eight minutes to secure the victory.

Gabe Nobles led the Cougars in the win with 15 points. Lucas Hulse added seven points including going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final quarter of the game.

In the loss, Powder Valley saw six players add to the point total led by Hunter Bingham’s 14 points. Stran Bingham ended with seven points.

Wallowa (9-10 overall, 3-2 1A Old Oregon League) continues on the road but with a shorter trip on Jan. 26 with a county rivalry game at Joseph (6-11 overall, 2-3 1A Old Oregon League). Earlier this season, the Cougars grabbed a close 29-26 victory over the Eagles.

Powder Valley (7-11 overall, 1-4 1A Old Oregon League) is also on the road on Jan. 25 with a trip to Cove (14-5 overall, 4-1 1A Old Oregon League).
