Published 7:00 pm Monday, January 15, 2024

OSAA ranking in parentheses. All games on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Times listed are Pacific.

Pendleton at La Grande

Time: 6 p.m.

Most Popular

Records: Pendleton (14) 8-8 overall, 1-0 4A Greater Oregon League; La Grande (9) 10-7 overall, 0-1 4A Greater Oregon League

Overview: Pendleton rolls into La Grande on a three-game win streak, including a home league victory over Ontario. The Buckaroos have not played a game since Jan. 9 as a good home test against 3A Burns was called off due to weather conditions.

The Tigers are in the home gym on a two-game skid, including a home loss to Baker to open the Greater Oregon League season. Like Pendleton, La Grande saw a nonleague game at Fruitland, Idaho, called off because of inclement weather.

La Grande can ill afford two straight GOL losses in a league of only four teams with road games to both Pendleton and Baker on the upcoming schedule.

Pilot Rock at Elgin

Time: 6 p.m.

Records: Pilot Rock (45) 4-9 overall, 0-3 1A Old Oregon League; Elgin (34) 4-9 overall, 0-1 1A Old Oregon League

Overview: This is the chance for one of these teams to get back in the win column in the Old Oregon League standings.

The Rockets have yet to see a win in January, recording the team’s last victory at the Eastern Oregon Holiday Tournament on Dec. 28 over Harper Charter. Since that date, Pilot Rock have dropped league losses to Echo, Union and Nixyaawii.

Elgin has a similar story, recording a win back at the Eastern Oregon Crossover Tournament on Dec. 28 with a game against Huntington. The Huskies saw the team’s league opener get away from them, taking a 30-point loss to Union on the road.
