It’s common to hear people talking about the state of journalism, often saying it’s dying or has changed or is changing a lot. I agree that journalism is changing. But I think it’s too early to say it’s dying.
No matter what happens in the future, people will always want news they can trust. But these days, it’s hard to agree on what’s true. In our job, we stick to the facts. Facts are the basic building blocks of finding the truth in any issue.
Newspapers, when they’re at their best, give people the facts about a specific topic without any bias. It’s not fancy or complicated, but it can be hard. Sometimes it’s tough to find the facts, especially when they’re hidden in bureaucracy where things aren’t very clear.
That’s why what our reporters do is hard. They have to tell a complete story, and they have to get the facts right. In a good newsroom, facts are really important. Because in the end, all we have is our reporting and our facts. We can’t blame anyone else if we make a mistake. We have to admit it, figure out what went wrong, and fix it.
Our whole job is based on facts. Sometimes they’re easy to find, like in a car crash. But other times, it takes a lot of work to find the facts. Either way, our reporters have to work hard to find the facts and tell them accurately.
Our reputation for being honest and fair is the most important thing we have. That’s why we always try to be clear and accurate in our reporting. Journalism might change, but our commitment to telling the truth doesn’t.
