- This aerial view of La Grande taken about 1921, maybe a little later, comes from a postcard in the collection of historian Robert Bull. Woodruff was the photographer and he was known for taking these kinds of photos from both aircraft and balloons, according to Bull. There are several interesting things that are seen: For one, Jefferson Avenue has not yet been paved west from Fourth Street. The La Grande Hotel has not yet been built. And this picture has a pretty good view of the Chinese buildings where Fourth Street and Jefferson meet and beyond to the railroad tracks. This picture has a lot of details if you know where to look.
