College baseball: EOU can’t slow Owls

PENDLETON — The Eastern Oregon baseball team dropped a pair of games to Oregon Tech on Monday in a doubleheader postponed a day by weather.
EOU dropped the first game, 17-16, in a game where the two teams combined for 27 hits. The Mountaineers had a 16-12 leading heading into the bottom of the ninth but saw the Owls score five runs to win.
Mario Landeros and Chase Nett each launched homers, contributing to a six-run outburst in the fourth inning. Trevor Baker also joined the home run parade with a solo shot, helping Eastern Oregon surge ahead 14-4 heading to the sixth inning.
Landeros led the EOU offensive output with five RBIs, joined by Nett and Danny Burns with three hits each.
The Mountaineers dropped the second game 11-4 as the Owls scored seven runs in the second inning and led 10-0 in the fifth inning of a seven inning game.
The Mounties found some life in the fifth inning when Joey Freitas punched a double to right center, allowing Nett and Youhyeon Choi to score.
The Mountaineers, now 8-11 overall, will return to action next weekend when they take on the Whitworth Pirates in Spokane, Washington.
