High school track and field: Small Tiger team competes in Pasco

PASCO, Wash. — A small contingent of La Grande track and field athletes made the trip to Pasco, Washington, to take on Washington teams at the Prosser Rotary Invite on Friday, April 19.

In the girls team standings, the Tigers finished the meet with 14 points, tied for 11th with the team from East Valley Yakima.

The top individual finish for La Grande came in the 100 as junior Kylie Brown had the third quickest time, posting a season best 13.25 seconds. Brown stepped down one spot to fourth in the 200 with a 27.35-second race.

Sophomore Emilee Huntsman swept both the shot put and 100, winning both. Huntsman crossed the line in 27.43 seconds in the 100, her quickest time of her career and set a new season record in the shot put with a throw of 12 feet, 7.5 inches.

The La Grande boys tied with Pasco for 13th after putting up 15 points.

The top finish for the day went to sophomore Lee Harris and his fourth-place showing in the high jump after clearing 6 feet.

The 4-by-100 relay team of senior Korey Newman, senior David Sain and sophomores Bekham Hibbert and Lee Harris finished fifth with a time of 44.72 seconds.

The entirety of the La Grande team will be back in action on April 26 at the Carnival of Speed at McLoughlin High School. Field events kick off at 10 a.m. with running events hitting the track at noon.
